Finding Gaia
Choreography
What if we can no longer inhabit this earth and migrate to another planet? How do we take our first steps in this new world, and can we do it together? Centered around these questions, Mayke van Veldhuizen has created a futuristic choreography: Finding Gaia. Two dancers embark on an unknown planet with the crucial question: can we (co)exist here?
Finding Gaia is an 18-minute dance duet exploring the longing for connection in an uncertain future and whether two individuals can transcend their learned individualism to forge a new beginning together. The dancers move robotically and mechanically, interspersed with graceful, circular motions, exploring each other and the new world. It depicts the struggle of adapting to new norms: repelling each other yet yearning for contact.
